SUMMARY:OTP 101 For Community Partners: Collaboration and Connecting Systems of Care
DESCRIPTION:Providing patient-centered care for individuals receiving treatment services for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) requires coordination across healthcare and social service providers. Establishing connections and interagency collaboration among OTPs and community agencies\, such as emergency departments\, skilled nursing facilities\, and correctional institutions\, can support long-term recovery. \nParticipants will hear from Dr. Ruth A. Potee\, a Massachusetts-based addiction medicine physician who speaks nationally on addiction\, substance use\, and the development of the teenage brain to audiences of parents\, students\, medical professionals\, teachers\, school counselors\, emergency medical workers\, courthouse staff\, law enforcement\, correctional officers\, and the general public. \nDr. Potee has tailored this 1-hour webinar to provide key information to providers working with OTPs in Massachusetts. SUMMARY:Bringing Treatment to the Community: Insights from mobile opioid treatment clinics in Massachusetts
DESCRIPTION:The Institute for Community Health (ICH) will join the OTP TTA Webinar series to share insights from the implementation and evaluation of mobile opioid treatment program (OTP) medication units in Massachusetts. Drawing on interviews with providers and patients\, the session will highlight the real-world impacts of mobile units\, key considerations for implementation\, and practical strategies from the field to address common challenges. The expansion of mobile opioid treatment clinics has increased greatly since regulations opened up in June 2021. \nTeams representing three mobile sites will join the webinar to share their experiences implementing methadone dispensing from a mobile site. \nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the impact of mobile opioid treatment programs on both patients and OTP providers.\nIdentify unique considerations for developing and implementing a mobile opioid treatment program.\nSummarize common challenges experienced in a mobile opioid treatment program and ways these issues can be avoided or addressed.\n\nPresenter: Andrés Hoyos-Céspedes (he/him) is an Epidemiologist II and Research and Evaluation Project Manager at the Institute for Community Health (ICH). He leads and supports projects in participatory evaluation\, assessment and planning\, and applied research to improve healthcare delivery systems and community well-being. His work spans evaluating programs and interventions in behavioral health\, substance use\, recovery support\, access to care for LEP patients\, violence prevention\, child and youth development\, and social determinants of health. Andrés brings expertise in program evaluation\, quantitative methods\, and culturally responsive evaluation. \nFacilitator: Ranjani Paradise (she/her) is the Director of Evaluation at the Institute for Community Health. She leads the development of ICH’s evaluation services and is project director for mixed methods research and evaluation projects across a range of topic areas\, with a focus on behavioral health and substance use. Her portfolio also includes projects related to health equity\, language access\, workforce development\, health systems advocacy and transformation\, and social determinants of health. SUMMARY:Expanding Access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) in Jails and Prisons: Implementation Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Join Jason Faro\, Assistant Superintendent at the Essex County Sheriff’s Department\, as he shares firsthand experience from launching an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in a jail setting.  Learn how this initiative expands access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD)\, improves continuity of care\, and enhances treatment for opioid use disorder within correctional systems. \nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to: \n\nHighlight steps involved to increase access to medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in carceral settings.\nDescribe ways MOUD program implementation in carceral settings is influenced by policy and state requirements.\nName common challenges with program implementation and suggested strategies applied to address barriers. \n\nPresenter: Jay Faro \nJason Faro\, BS\, MS has served with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office since 1998\, rising through the ranks from a correctional officer to his present position. He is currently responsible for the day-to-day operations of the newly formed Specialized Reentry Services Division. Assistant Superintendent Faro currently manages all services that involve medication assisted treatment\, offender diversion programming\, and pretrial reentry services. Current initiatives involve breaking “traditional practice” through the adoption of validated classification methods. Assistant Superintendent Faro holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science and a Master of Science degree in Human Services. He is a graduate of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department Basic Training Academy\, Middleton\, Massachusetts and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center\, U.S. Border Patrol Academy Class 284\, Artesia\, New Mexico. Assistant Superintendent Faro also regularly acts as adjunct faculty at local colleges instructing on subjects of criminology\, corrections\, and treatment within correctional settings.
